Introducing My Reading Notes

I’ve always questioned whether or not it’s right for me to post my thoughts about the stories I read. As someone who aspires to be a published author one day, I feel like it doesn’t make sense for me to do a typical review of a short story or book, especially if it’s negative. However, I do think it could be beneficial for me to share which stories I did enjoy reading and why.

I have noticed the trend on TikTok, or rather BookTok, where content creators will make a video talking about their review of a book. Some content creators will create videos of them talking about what they read in the last month or just recommending a couple of titles related to a theme. While I do find those helpful for me to find new books to read, that’s not what I want to do.

I want to go deeper. I want to give the writer’s POV of reading a story. I want to tell you how I see the title of a short story becomes the overall theme and how the author carries it through the entire work. I want to discuss how the main character goes through a transformation by the end of the story. I want to focus on specific prose or words that hit me hard as a writer and a reader.

I’m going to give it a shot and see how it goes. At the very least, if the blog posts here or videos I post on TikTok don’t do well, then I’ll still be studying craft.
